By common consensus, Patrick McGuire has definitely got his 13th-placed Thackley side heading well and truly in the right direction in recent months, earning plaudits from many of his Toolstation NCEL Premier Division management colleagues. Tomorrow, he welcomes bottom side AFC Goole to Dennyfield; and Patrick, determined that his players turn things round after a damaging loss at Muglet Lane, isn’t expecting the Vikings to be passive visitors, writes Colin Muncie.
“We are under no illusions about what we’re up against this weekend,” Patrick told TBG. “Goole have added to their squad and will come here needing to take points off us. We’ve got a point total we want to reach and we want to finish as high in the table as we can, so we’re not going to give them anything for free.”
“I’m still looking for a big reaction to the defeat at Maltby,” he warned, “and the lads know that they are playing for their places both now and going into next season, so I’m hoping to see the lads produce the quality they’re capable of.”
Patrick has added some fresh blood, and hinted that some of his own younger players could soon be coming into the reckoning. “We’ve added to our squad with Jorge Sikora coming on loan from Bradford City and he brings more competition for places,” he reported.” There are also a few of the Under-21 squad knocking on the door of the first team – so it’s up to the lads to produce the goods and keep their shirts.”
