Thackley came from a goal down on Saturday to defeat relegation threatened Goole AFC 4-1, in what was, after 90 minutes, a convincing win.
“I asked for a big reaction today and I got one. Goole’s social media made it clear the importance the game had for them in their fight for survival and we’d seen they had drafted a few in to make the challenge more difficult for us.”
“After a slow start it took Goole going in front to settle us down and from then on we were calm and composed and played the kind of football I want us to. We scored three good goals from two great strikes and one from some good build up play and were unlucky not to have a couple more before the break.”
“Second-half I thought we were in control of proceedings but we switched off after having a lot of possession and Luke Wilson had to make a good save to stop Goole making it 3-2, which would have been game on. That gave us a kick up the backside and sparked us into life again and we went and got the fourth which killed the game in our favour.”
“Overall I’m really pleased with the performance and the quality of football played. I thought 16 year old Jorge Sikora had a superb debut and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself – a defenders finish from 6 yards out clearing the bar!”
“I’ll be looking for the same kind of performance from the lads next week in a tough local derby away at Liversedge.”
