A 15th-minute penalty from Ryan Poskitt sealed a 1-0 away win for Glasshoughton Welfare as they consolidated their grip on tenth place in Toolstation NCEL Division One by seeing off 16th-placed Shirebrook Town at Langwith Road yesterday in front of the 89 crowd – leaving Joint Manager Darren Holmes to reflect on a profitable few days, writes Colin Muncie.
“Today finished a very good week for us, points wise,” Darren told TBG. “We’ve had two very good battling performances and maximum points. Like Tuesday, today was never going to be first on Match of the Day as the pitch was terrible and very difficult to play any sort of flowing football on. It was about working hard, putting the ball in the right areas and forcing mistakes.”
“There were very few chances created by either side but I thought we defended anything they created very well.” Darren went on, “we forced an error and Ryan put his penalty away – very well. Considering we had quite a few regulars missing, the lads that came in did very well. All in all, a win is a win and credit to the lads can feel very pleased with a great week.
“We now need to push on and finish the season on a high.”
