Skegness Town took a massive step towards securing their NCEL Division One status yesterday by beating fellow strugglers Shirebrook Town 2-1 thanks to goals from Jordan Smith and Gary King, with Carter Widdowson replying for the visitors, writes Ian Robinson.
With just two games remaining, The Lilywhites sit eight points clear of the drop zone, and whilst all the teams below them have games in hand, the current form table suggests that teams such as Ollerton and Shirebrook are unlikely to overtake Skegness.
All of which made Town Manager Nathan Collins a happy man. ” It was a huge win for the club today. The first-half was miles off where we need to be and even though we scored a really good goal and hit the woodwork a couple of times, the intensity wasn’t there and we made that crystal clear to the players at half-time. We changed shape and I have to give the lads credit as they put things right in the second half and got us a big three points.”
Looking back on their inaugural campaign in the NCEL, Nathan added, “it’s been a tough season but the togetherness of the whole club is first class.”
