HAYWARD: “The first half was one of the most inept forty-five minutes I’ve had the mis-pleasure to witness!”

With Hemsworth MW boss Wayne Benn away for the weekend, it was left up to his assistant Andy Hayward to take the team, but they fell to a 3-2 loss away at Knaresborough.

Knaresborough sprinted into a 2-nil lead with Luke Stewart (’37), Will Lenehan (’45) and Adam Baker (’66) added a third just after Nash Connolly had got one back for Hemsworth.

In front of a fantastic crowd of 230 Adam Knight made it a grandstand finish (’79), but no matter how much Hemsworth pushed forward, Knaresborough held strong for the win.

“The first half was one of the most inept forty-five minutes I’ve had the mis-pleasure to witness from our lads: no work rate, no passion or desire when there’s still second place up for grabs, very disappointed.”

“We conceded three very poor goals from our point of view. We got two goals in the second-half but that didn’t disguise how poor we were.”

“Take nothing away from Knaresborough they worked hard and took the chances and deserved the win. We got what we deserved. We have to dust ourselves down and go again on Tuesday and not let the season fizzle out.”
