You could throw an extremely small blanket – maybe even a napkin – over the top three in Toolstation NCEL Division One as we head into the last four or five games of a thrilling season. Just one point covers the leaders as we look forward to another tense weekend, and all three have tough games ahead of them. Second-placed Campion are at home, but welcome seventh-placed Worsbrough Bridge Athletic to the Kay and Lane Insurance Stadium; Hallam are third but head to Swallownest for what’s sure to be a hard-fought local derby in front of a big crowd; and leaders Grimsby Borough face a big test when they head to sixth-placed and overachieving Dronfield Town at the HE Barnes Stadium. The Wilderness Boys enjoy a decent advantage on goals scored, but Joint Manager Daniel Barrett isn’t at all interested in the mathematics, writes Colin Muncie.
As always, Daniel got right to the heart of the matter, and offered high praise to Chris Millington and his team. “Every game is vital now and every game is a ‘must win’,” he told TBG. “There is no hiding behind that. Every fixture is a big fixture at both ends of the table. We have a very difficult fixture against a team that are probably in the top two teams of the season along with Worsbrough. They have both done incredibly well, and are a credit to their management.”
Daniel wants more of his squad to get on the front foot this weekend. “A few of our lads know that their levels last week were not good enough,” he told us. “So, I am expecting them to be putting that right at the first opportunity.”
“There will be a twist in the tale in the up and coming games,” Daniel predicted. “It will be an exciting run in – for sure.”
