Andy Horbury and Jack Owen scored the goals that secured the points for Nostell Miners Welfare in a comfortable 2-0 victory at Armthorpe Welfare yesterday, writes Ian Robinson.
“It was a good performance from us in really warm weather. I think we deserved the points and were the better team on the day,” said Nostell Joint Manager Jason Dodsworth, who revealed that a bit of re-focussing was needed at half time.
“The first half seemed to have an end of season stroll in the park attitude, but we spoke at half-time and said we don’t want to finish the season that way, and credit to the lads, in the second-half we were a lot better and could have won by a few more.”
“Armthorpe put us under a bit of pressure to be fair, but without really creating any clear chances. I’m happy with the points and another clean sheet for our defence who have been outstanding this season.”
Jason’s views were echoed by goal scorer Horbury who told us, “they were tough conditions with the heat, but we got the win in the end after making hard work of it. We dominated the game and they didn’t really have a clear cut chance.”
