Winterton Rangers had to finally give up their dreams of promotion at the weekend and are now just playing for position after a terrific season which has seen them secure their highest points total in eleven years, writes Ian Robinson.
They end the season with a trip to relegated FC Bolsover, and Manager Scott Hellewell is determined to end the season strongly, whilst, at the same time, paying respects to their opponents. “It’s the last game of the season and we want to end it on a high, we are on a good run currently and it would be nice to finish with a win. We are happy with a 4th placed finish in our first season challenging and I personally can’t wait for next season already.”
“Bolsover will want to end their stint in the NCEL on a high as well, so we won’t take them lightly. As a defender myself, I want to finish with a clean sheet and hopefully top of the goals against column.”
Meanwhile, home Manager Matt Chatfield still has a target in mind despite the fact that “The Great Escape’ didn’t quite work out despite his side’s best efforts.
“After a great result last week against a good Swallownest side, we are looking to finish the season with back to back wins and show that this club fought until the end.”
“If results go our way we have a chance of finishing the season second bottom which would be a great ending to a very tough season. Obviously it’s not the position we wanted to be in but we always wanted to finish as high as we can, and to finish second bottom after being on 0 points on the 1st December would be a mini success.”
“We must give credit to Winterton who have been in the hunt for the title all season, they are a great club and it will be an exciting game to finish the season.”
“With Saturday in mind, it is free entry for everyone so we would like to see as many people down there to support the lads as possible.”
Last word goes to Scott who finished by saying, “Just like to say a massive thank you to everyone at The Bootiful Game, it’s enjoyable seeing what other Managers are saying and people’s takes on games, as well as keeping up to date with all the goings on in our League.”
