Nostell Miners Welfare signed off a very successful campaign with an emphatic 5-2 win at Selby Town that saw them finish in 5th place in Division One, a vast improvement on last season’s 17th place finish, writes Ian Robinson.
Nostell raced into a three goal lead before Selby pulled two goals back just before half time, only for Jack Owen to complete his hat trick with a second half brace to seal the win, all of which gave Manager Jason Dodsworth plenty of talking points.
“We’re pleased with the three points, but we weren’t too impressed at half time and the players knew it. We were 3-0 up and playing well, and it could have been a lot more to be honest. Then we decided the game was done and started to do the wrong things in wrong areas and allowed Selby to get two back. In the second half we got back to basics and killed the game off.
“We’re really pleased with the season on the whole and it’s been a massive turnaround for the club. It was good to give a few of our Under 21’s a game today too, and they all did really well, there’s some big talent there. We’ve qualified for the FA Cup for next season and again that’s a big plus for the club.
“It’s a great club and the lads have been a credit to us all season, so I would like to thank the players for all their efforts, they have been tremendous. We will sit down and discuss next season now with the Chairman, and hopefully we can push for promotion next season.”
The Bootiful Game would like to thank Jason for his contributions throughout the season and offer our congratulations to him and his squad for an excellent campaign.
