Double glory for Swallownest FC Under 16’s!

Swallownest’s Under 16’s set the seal on a fantastic season by adding the Sheffield and District Under 16’s League Cup to their Division C title after a 5-1 win over Eckington Boys Yellow in a tremendous final at Parkgate FC yesterday afternoon, writes Nicola Langton.

The afternoon started with a poignant minute’s silence in tribute to Phoenix Sports FC’s Ryan Durkin after the 15-year old was tragically and needlessly killed after being struck by a stolen car ten days ago.

The final was worthy of Ryan’s memory. A cagey but hard fought first-half ended goalless, but only after amazing saves from both goalkeepers.

Swallownest started to dominate in the second-half, and broke the deadlock after nice build-up play down the right and an accurate through ball from Joe put Jacob in on goal. He made no mistake with a calm finish.

Jacob headed home the second from a corner, and quickly completed his hat-trick with another smart finish. Noah’s relentless pressing then forced a mistake and he fired home to make it four. Jacob added his fourth to complete a 5-1 win and secure another trophy for this disciplined, talented young team.

Congratulations to both sides on a superb final, and to Nigel and team for a brilliant season.
