Sibson pleased to finish 5th in their inaugural season in NCEL top flight

Neil Sibson and his Yorkshire Amateur side ended their season with a 3-0 loss away at Penistone Church and he gave us a fair assessment of the game.

“We finished our season with a defeat away at Penistone Church. Not sure it was a 3-0 game but the score doesn’t lie. The difference was one player who scored all three goals. We did speak about him beforehand which disappoints me a little as we should have taken care of him.”

“The windy conditions ensured it was going to be a scrappy game and if I’m totally honest they handled them better. We did create chances hitting the woodwork in both halves and a bit better decision making and we would have had a tap in.”

“Penistone also struck the bar in which I thought was the best move of the game. We lost both our centre halves during the game and the physio table was in constant use before the game, but not taking anything away from Church, they won the game.”

“They played their system well in the first-half but the disappointing thing again is we know what system that is and we should have been better in trying to nullify it.”

“The lads finished in 5th so not a bad first season. I for one, am ready for the break but to be fair it will only be a couple of weeks before us Managers are back as there’s lots of other work to be done before a ball is even kicked in pre-season.”

“We will look forward to the new campaign where we will learn from our previous years work, which will stand us in good stead for next season.”
