Stewart was thrilled to bring the curtain down on a frustrating season in decisive fashion

Appropriately enough, the last word on Goole AFC’s crucial 2-1 win over Hall Road Rangers falls to the Vikings’ two-goal hero Carl Stewart, whose brace confirmed that his side will be playing NCEL Premier Division football again next season – and Carl was thrilled to bring the curtain down on a frustrating season in decisive fashion, writes Colin Muncie. (Main photograph by Darren Thompson)

“We knew going into the game it was going to be tough,” Carl admitted, “I think we started very slowly in the first-half and were happy to get in 1-1 at half-time. We came out after half-time and totally dominated the second-half and it should have been more than 2-1. I was buzzing to get the two goals and keep us up. The fans were a massive boost as well; when that second went in the roar from the fans was something else.”

Carl is hoping for better things next term. “My season has been a bit stop start with injures,” he told us. “With other things just not going right. Hopefully we can get something sorted and try to build a team that can really challenge for promotion next season.”
