Three seasons on from relegation to NCEL Division One, Pontefract Collieries welcome Brighouse Town to the G and R Construction Stadium with the opportunity of securing a third successive promotion if they win tomorrow’s Evo-Stik Northern Premier League East Division Play-Off Final in West Yorkshire – and their players are well prepared for a tough ninety minutes, writes Colin Muncie for the Bootiful Game.
Colls clinched their Final place with that that thrilling extra time semi-final win over Ossett United in midweek having finished a strong second to Morpeth Town in the regular season; and striker Vaughan Redford is looking forward to a terrific occasion.
“It’s a massive game for the club,” he told TBG. “We’ve got a chance to make history with three promotions in a row! There should be a decent crowd as well, which is good for the club and for the players. This is the type of game you want to play in!”
“The season has been a great first season in the Evo-Stik so far; but we are looking to finish it off on Saturday!”
Fellow striker Chris Jackson doesn’t underestimate the challenge tomorrow’s visitors bring to Beechnut Lane, even although the Points Per Game ratio is likely to prevent Brighouse from promotion, even if they win.
“It’s not going to be easy against Brighouse by any stretch,” he warned. “They are in the Final for a reason; you don’t get there by chance. It’s the biggest game in the history of the club; there is no hiding that fact. The season has been great for us so far, we take it a game at a time, as we always have.”
“It really shows the amount of hard work the lads, Managers and volunteers have put in, to get us into the position we are in today.”
