Top 3 players from each division give their reaction to accolades

Earlier on Monday morning, TBG announced the results of the NCEL Premier Division and Division One players of the season as voted for by the public, and we caught up with each of them.

NCEL Premier Division

3rd – Barton Town defender Owen Marshall with 241 votes (7.53%).

“This year has been a proper learning curve for myself, getting to grips with counties football properly and establishing myself as a starter/captain in the first team.

“I feel on a personal level that I have played well which is why I’m very proud to have received the recognition in way of this achievement.

“It’s a big thing being nominated for this for anyone, especially for me in what was my first full season at this level. Would also like to say a massive thank you to barton town, the fans, the chairman and the gaffer, for this past season and a half and wish them the best of luck in the upcoming seasons.”

2nd – Worksop Town’s Daniel Patterson with 288 votes (9.00%)

“Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who voted, it’s been an amazing season for the club and really happy to be a part of it, the winning streak has been something else, to win the league and possibly the League cup double well it would top a brilliant season off for the club and myself.

“Congrats to Matt Sykes as well, worthy winner he’s been absolutely tremendous all season. UTT!”

1st – Worksop Town’s Matthew Sykes with 350 votes (10.94%)

“It’s an honour to win it and the cherry on top of an excellent season, hopefully it can be matched with the League Cup title next Monday! I’m grateful to everyone that voted for me and it’s great having Danny Patterson up there because in all honesty it could have gone to any of my teammates, everyone has played a part in getting Worksop promoted this season.

It took a while for us to get properly going but the coaching staff kept their faith with the lads and thankfully so did the fans, they’ve been class throughout the whole season. For me it’s been my best season by far surpassing my goal target by January and then going on to double it.

I think I’m finally used to Non-League football and can’t wait to see what next season holds for us!”

NCEL Division One

3rd – Shirebrook Town’s young keeper Levi Owen with 178 votes (5.79%)

Levi Owen, Shirebrook Town goalkeeper.

“I was absolutely thrilled to be in the top 3, in my first full season in the NCEL, especially up against players of such a high standard in most cases. I’m really grateful for anyone who took the time to vote, especially those who gave me a vote.”

“It’s been a massive learning curve this season. It was a really late offer to go to Shirebrook. Just 3 days before the opening game, so I have to thank Cammy for having the faith to put me in from the start, especially as an 18 year old. So I’m hoping this year to get a much stronger pre-season in, as I don’t have many exams to split my time with.”

“We’ve had all but two separate teams this season, making consistency a real issue. However I feel I’ve been in good form for the most of the season and have played behind a lot of players who’ve wanted the best for Shirebrook town helping us to retain our NCEL status.”

“Well done to the top two, both have had brilliant seasons from what I’ve seen.”

“Really enjoyed playing in the NCEL this season. Hope everyone has a good summer, before we get going again in July.”

“Finally a massive thanks to the Bootiful Game for their fantastic coverage on the NCEL.”

2nd – Dronfield Town’s Lewis Naylor with 191 votes (6.21%)

“Thanks to everyone that voted for me and also a thanks to the team for making sure I have plenty to do most games (lol).

I’m happy to take second place behind my good pal Kieren who again has been in the goals this season! (One against me)

We have had a really good season at Dronfield and I have been fortunate enough to play in every game bar one. Hopefully I won’t put too much weight on over the summer and can pick up where I left off next season!”

1st – Kieren Watson for the 2nd year running with 369 votes (12%)

Hallam’s star striker Kieren Watson.

“Yes it nice to win player of the season again. We’ve got a great squad at Hallam and it’s credit to them as well after a disappointing end to the season.

It’s nice to see Lew Naylor getting recognition in 2nd as well, who for me is the best keeper in this league.”
