Huge news for an NCEL Premier Division side…

League Two side Scunthorpe United have announce a new partnership with NCEL Premier Division side Bottesford Town which will see the Under-23 home games in 2019-20 played at Birkdale Park.

A statement from the club says, “The Iron will be investing in the first team pitch on Ontario Road, with the club’s ground staff working closely with the Poachers throughout the season to maintain the surface which will be used by both parties.

Russ Wilcox’s side will be based at Glanford Park and will train at the St. Lawrence Academy during the week, with the club intending to join the Central League and the Central League Cup when the application process opens.

The partnership will also see Bottesford Town retain all gate receipts for the fixtures, with admission £3 for adults and £1 for Over-65s and Under-18s. 12th Man holders for 2019-20 will be admitted for free providing they carry their season cards to any Under-23s fixture at Birkdale Park.

In addition to this, Bottesford will introduce an offer for all of the Iron’s 12th Man holders to gain admission to Birkdale Park for their NCEL fixtures at the concessionary rate of just £3.

The two clubs are also in talks for a pre-season fixture to be held at Bottesford ahead of the new season, with a date and kick-off time yet to be determined.

Club Secretary Adam Grice said: “We are delighted to be expanding our partnership with local side Bottesford Town, which both teams will benefit from over the coming season.

“The club is looking forward to working closely with Bottesford Town in a number of ways over the course of the next 12 months. We would like to thank Bottesford Town Chairman Tony Reeve and Junior Chairman Steve Altoft for all their help in finalising the partnership.”

Bottesford Club Chairman Tony Reeve added: “We see this as a great opportunity to re-establish a close relationship between Scunthorpe United Football Club and our ‘Charter Standard Community Football Club’.

“It is hoped that the venture will encourage more football fans to watch Step 5 football at Birkdale Park when the Iron are on their travels.”
